Forecast: Hazy heat continues for Central Texas as we keep an eye on Hurricane Beryl
Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.
AUSTIN, Texas — Hot and hazy weather will continue into Tuesday for Central Texas. Our first plume of Saharan dust so far this year has arrived, and it will bring some more hazy conditions on Tuesday. The haze briefly improves on Wednesday and Thursday, but then another plume of dust could arrive by Friday.
We expect more triple digit heat through the rest of this week. In fact, Tuesday will likely be our hottest day so far of the summer with a high near 102 degrees in Austin. Fortunately, the humidity is lower than last week, so we don’t have any heat alerts in Austin.
The triple digit heat will continue through the 4th of July with no chance for rain through Friday. It is possible we could get some small rain chances by this weekend into early next week, and also a slight cool down into the 90s. As of now, that rain potential would be unrelated to Hurricane Beryl, but this system is still something we need to keep an eye on.
The National Hurricane Center now calls for Beryl to cross over the Yucatan peninsula on Friday as a hurricane, and then emerge over the southwestern Gulf as a weaker tropical storm on Saturday. From there, the most likely path would take the storm into northern Mexico, and this would have very little if any impact on our KVUE area forecast.
However, there is still uncertainty in the path. A less likely, but still possible, scenario would have Beryl turn northward over the Gulf, perhaps putting parts of Texas or even Louisiana in the path. If we were to see any impacts from Beryl it would be early next week around Monday and Tuesday, but again that is not the most likely scenario as of now.
We’ll keep y’all posted as we fine tune the forecast!
